Recommendations for use your battery powered lamp with its build-in Li-Ion Battery;
What do you need to know about Li-Ion batteries management.
Your LED book reading lamp or music stand light use a Lithium-Ion (Li-ion) battery, you need to be clear that Lithium-ion batteries have no “memory effect” as Nickel-Cadmium (NiCd) or Nickel-Metal (NiMH) rechargeable batteries such as those commonly used in digital cameras and MP3 players.
The memory effect is a phenomenon that reduces the capacity of recharge some kind of batteries, occurs when a person stars charging a battery without discharging it completely before.
Our reading lamps and most of other devices now are using Lithium-Ion batteries due they are much more efficient than their predecessors Nickel-Metal (NiMH) or Nickel Cadmium (NiCd).
- Lithium-Ion batteries no need charge before first use, usually come with an initial charge.
Most of Lithium-Ion batteries have a circuit which shuts off power once the charging is complete, your battery powered lamp should have an indicator to let you know the charging process is complete.
Of course you must keep in mind that there is always the possibility of the adapter suffering a current peak, an overload or a fault therefore we do not recommend leaving the charger permanently connected.
How long does a Li-Ion battery?
The life time of a Li-Ion Battery depends of several factors; you can expect to last for 1000 charges/discharges or about 3 years, there are some tips to have a better life time:
- Heat: The Li-Ion batteries are extremely susceptible to high temperatures, so try to use your device in a cool environment will extend its functionality.
- Storage: If you are not using the device you must store it with a 40% of charge, this is ideal to maintain the battery lifetime.
- LED bulbs are very low consuming, then your battery powered lamp will runs on battery so much hours before need a new charge and you always have the possibility of use it with the AC adaptor or any USB port connection.
