They could not kill him because the people heard him

They could not kill him because the people heard him

Luke 19:45-48

Jesus at the Temple

45 When Jesus entered the temple courts, he began to drive out those who were selling. 46 “It is written,” he said to them, “‘My house will be a house of prayer’; but you have made it ‘a den of robbers.”

47 Every day he was teaching at the temple. But the chief priests, the teachers of the law and the leaders among the people were trying to kill him. 48 Yet they could not find any way to do it, because all the people hung on his words.

Personal Meditation

Jesus talked every day with the people in the temple, the high priests and the notables of the town wanted to kill him but they could not because people listened to him; It is a very clear message for our times, we listen to Jesus every day and we are filled with his love and teachings and we keep his values alive, his message.

What do the ‘leaders of the people’ want us to believe? Happiness is in HAVE, DO and ENJOY, when you buy something new you reload your happiness, but when it goes out of style or it gets old, you get sad, they sell life insurance, retirement plans, diets to lose weight and look better, trainings to sculpt your body and a long etcetera.

Jesus, on the other hand, says “Man shall not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God” Mt 4,4. A message completely opposed to the interests of those who promote consumerism, mass production and the manufacture of products with programmed obsolescence.

Jesus invites us to have a spiritual life, a life that needs just enough to live and rules out accumulation and the incessant search for comfort.

That’s why they want to kill him, because the empire of consumerism and the concentration of wealth in a few would end.

Attacks on Jesus are made against his people through attempts to undermine the basis of the family, the value of life, faith in eternal life and ethics in all human activities.

Since it is impossible for them to kill the head of the Church (Jesus himself), they attack their body and that is why we need to LISTEN EVERY DAY to stay connected to Him because: ” apart from me you can do nothing” Jn 15, 5

I share with you how I, too, have given up on announcing by the pressure of consumerism, individual welfare and false respect. When we started selling the book light, at its base we printed a biblical quote that said “Love your neighbor as yourself” Mt 22, 39. Many people liked it, others did not notice it and a few complained and wrote negative reviews on the Amazon page, I confess that I got carried away by the fear of losing qualification or even that Amazon closed my seller account and I decided to change the text, now it says “Be Light … Be the change”.

I have reflected and I see in this situation how the system managed to close my mouth to announce it, I notice how weak my faith was in order to remain firm in my convictions … I am sorry Jesus.

The invitation is then to stay connected to Him with daily prayer, with the attentive listening of His Word so that our faith remains firm “fixing our eyes on Jesus” Hebrews 12, 1-2.
